Another film adaptation of a hugely popular book is going to hit the screens on August 8 in Sydney. Tomorrow when the war began has finally been made into a film. This is probably the most popular young adult series ever published in Australia and has achieved a lot of success around the world. In past years, before John Marsden began his own school, many SACS students had the pleasure of visiting John’s property in Victoria for writing camps. Here is the second official trailer of the upcoming film. The location used for Wirrawee was Raymond Terrace, north of Sydney. On Q and A John Marsden discusses the intriguing question Who are the invaders? both in TWTWB and in The rabbits.

Who saw Eclipse in the holidays?

Many people around the world were waiting for the opening of the film adaptation of the third instalment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga – Eclipse as well as numerous SACS students. What did you think of this adaptation? Did it live up to your expectations? Here is a link to the trailer on the official movie website for those who have not yet seen it.

Creation, the new film on Darwin

During the holidays I saw the new film on Darwin called Creation. It is based on the excellent book Annie’s box which is written by Darwin’s great-great grandson. It is a wonderful, tender and sad story about Darwin’s inner journey as he wrestles with his revolutionary scientific ideas and about his emotional life and significant family relationships. Conveying an inner journey on film and presenting a struggle of ideas is not always easily done on film but this is a successful adaptation. The screenplay was adapted by John Collee who also transformed Master and Commander for the screen. The clip on the Guardian website gives several viewpoints on the film.

PNG Book Drive

The many boxes of books for the PNG Book Drive have been picked up. SACS contributed 79 boxes containing 1925 books. Well done, all those who have helped by contributing or packing!

CD Literature Circles

Year 7 students have been reading a range of books during Term IV in the library including The hiding place, Ten boys who changed the world, a range of Trailblazers Christian biographies, Jesus Freaks, Sister Freaks, The chronicles of Narnia and The case for Christ. These have generated a lot of interesting discussion.

There have been many variations of the Did you know? (Shift happens) video over the past few years. Here is an updated one Did you know 4.0 that shows the ever increasing convergence of technologies. Does school education help us to deal with these changes?

Storybird

Storybird is a site enabling visual and ”collaborative storytelling for families and friends”. It is still under development. Apparently stories can be shared by email as well as Facebook and Twitter.
